Chapter 11: Reckless Ignorance (Please Add to Favorites)
Hearing Taishui’s words, Xiao Yu couldn’t help but look back. Behind their car, a silver van was following closely. Xiao Yu’s expression instantly turned icy.
“Who are those people behind us? Why are they following us?” Ye Shihan noticed the vehicle tailing them and asked, puzzled.
“It’s fine. Taishui, pull over up ahead,” Xiao Yu replied calmly.
Understanding the cue, Taishui slowed the car and parked by the roadside. He stepped out alone. Xiao Yu then got out, moved to the driver’s seat, and drove off slowly.
“What are you doing? Taishui hasn’t gotten back in yet!” Ye Shihan protested as Xiao Yu drove away.
“Don’t worry, he’ll be here soon,” Xiao Yu said softly, focusing on the road.
Taishui stood quietly on the street after getting out. Luckily, there weren’t many cars, so he didn’t cause a traffic jam. The van that had been following them noticed someone step out and was puzzled.
“Li Shao, is this guy with the target?”
Inside the van, a flamboyantly dressed young man with cropped hair and an earring asked Li Minghao beside him.
“Yes, they’re together. Floor it; if you can run him down, do it!” Li Minghao snarled viciously.
“That’s asking for trouble,” the young man hesitated. Li Minghao had only asked them to rough someone up, never to kill.
“Cut the crap! If anything happens, I’ll take the fall,” Li Minghao said, his face twisted.
With Li Minghao’s assurance, the young man pressed the accelerator to the floor, speeding toward Taishui.
The van drew closer. Taishui stood with arms folded, making no move to dodge. When the vehicle was less than two meters from him, he finally acted.
With a sudden push of his feet, Taishui leapt onto the roof of the van. Under the terrified gaze of Li Minghao and the young thug, he landed atop their car, crushing the roof with force.
The van immediately lost control, crashing into the roadside guardrail. The occupants suffered, but none more so than Li Minghao in the front passenger seat, who hadn’t buckled up.
At impact, Li Minghao’s body was hurled forward, his head smashing into the windshield, shattering it and leaving him bleeding profusely.
Moments later, black smoke rolled from the front of the vehicle, and figures staggered out.
Seeing Li Minghao among those disembarking, Taishui grinned and walked over slowly.
“Li Minghao, isn’t it good to be alive? Why insist on courting death?” Taishui’s voice was cold.
Dazed from the blow, Li Minghao shook his head, then looked up to see Taishui approaching with a chilling smile, causing him to stumble back in fright.
When he turned to call for his gang’s help, he found they had already fled, ignoring their own injuries.
It was no joke; they had witnessed Taishui’s abilities firsthand. If they stayed, it would be suicide.
“Seems you didn’t pick up much street honor. Your hired men left you behind,” Taishui observed the retreating figures, making no move to pursue, his gaze fixed on Li Minghao, a cold murderous intent emanating.
“Big brother, I was wrong, please spare me this once for my ignorance,” Li Minghao pleaded, swallowing hard.
“It’s not that I won’t spare you. You missed too many chances. Since you sincerely seek death, I don’t mind granting it.” Taishui’s killing intent was overwhelming. Though Xiao Yu always warned him not to stir up trouble, that did not mean they feared it.
“What are you going to do? Are you really going to kill me? Even if you do, you won’t get away!” Li Minghao was terrified, unable to withstand Taishui’s battle-hardened aura.
“Ha, maybe that’s the thinking of an ant. When a person’s strength is enough to change the rules, he’s no longer bound by them. And my brother is just such a man,” Taishui replied with a grin.
“No, no! You can’t kill me! I’m the Li family’s young master, I have money. Spare me and I’ll give you whatever you want!” Li Minghao begged desperately, trying to flee.
Taishui lost patience. His eyes suddenly turned blood-red. Li Minghao, preparing to escape, felt an invisible force weigh down on him, rendering him unable to move.
Taishui’s eyes were fully crimson now, his face terrifying. Li Minghao’s features twisted; blood streamed from his eyes, nose, mouth, and ears, even seeping from his skin.
In mere moments, Li Minghao became a figure drenched in blood. The agony made him want to scream, but only hoarse sounds escaped.
Slowly, Li Minghao melted into a puddle of blood before Taishui’s eyes. The Li family’s young master, Li Minghao—dead.
After Li Minghao’s demise, Taishui’s eyes returned to normal.
“Sigh, I still can’t use this technique casually. If I’d kept it up any longer, the enemy might not disappear, but I’d go blind myself,” Taishui muttered, rubbing his swollen eyes.
He glanced at the blood left behind, snorted coldly, and vanished swiftly from the road. Peace returned instantly. If not for the lingering scent of blood, no one would believe what had just occurred.
Running fast, Taishui soon saw Xiao Yu’s car. Xiao Yu hadn’t taken Ye Shihan home directly but stopped nearby, not wanting her to witness the carnage. Xiao Yu knew that with Taishui staying behind, those men’s fate was sealed.
“Big brother, the trash is cleaned up,” Taishui said to Xiao Yu, grinning. He was now the very picture of innocence, utterly different from his earlier ferocity. No one would imagine that such a gentle man in Xiao Yu’s presence could be so ruthless.
“Get in. Let’s go home,” Xiao Yu patted Taishui’s shoulder with a smile.
The three set out again, heading for the Ye family.
Soon, their car entered the Ye family’s neighborhood. Taishui parked at the gate.
Ye Shihan glanced at the contract in her arms, then at Xiao Yu’s impassive face. “Signing the contract so smoothly today is all thanks to you. Don’t worry, I’ll tell them everything. After this, I’m sure they’ll see you in a new light.”
Xiao Yu smiled, saying nothing. He never cared for others’ opinions; they were not worth his attention. But Ye Shihan was different—she was his wife. As long as she was happy, anything he did was worthwhile.
Ye Shihan, filled with excitement, walked toward the door. As she reached it, Ye Xuemei appeared once again.
“Sister, see? I told you this useless guy wouldn’t help, but you wouldn’t listen. Now the contract’s failed, and our family’s about to be thrown out of the Ye clan,” Ye Xuemei jeered, making no effort to ask how things had gone.
“Who said I didn’t sign the contract?” Ye Shihan frowned at Ye Xuemei’s words. Since Xiao Yu’s return, her sister had never looked him in the eye. Clearly, the Ye family’s view of Xiao Yu wasn’t going to change overnight.
“So you mean you signed it?” Ye Kai’s voice came from inside, as he walked out holding a cup of tea, his tone unreadable.
“Of course. The contract’s right here. Why would I lie?” Ye Shihan displayed the contract.
Ye Kai was still skeptical. Suddenly he asked, “You really signed it? Did Li Minghao actually help the Ye family this much?”
Ye Shihan hurried to explain, “It wasn’t Li Minghao. The reason I could sign it was all thanks to Xiao Yu—he’s the true hero of this matter!”
Though Ye Shihan spoke the truth, it was clear no one in the Ye family believed her.
“Hmph, Shihan, I never thought you’d make up such lies for this loser. Do you think I’m a fool?” Ye Kai said angrily.
“I’m not lying! This is how it happened!” Ye Shihan protested.
“Enough! Since the contract’s secured, there’s no need to worry. As for you—do you really plan to spend your life with this waste? Look at Li Minghao; he went to such lengths for you. You should reconsider!”
“Dad! I’ve told you, Li Minghao and I are impossible! Besides, Xiao Yu did all the work, why won’t you believe it? Can’t you put aside your prejudice and really try to understand him?”
At that moment, Ye Shihan was deeply aggrieved for Xiao Yu. He had orchestrated everything, yet her family credited Li Minghao instead. It was utterly unfair to Xiao Yu.
Seeing his persuasion was fruitless, Ye Kai shifted the topic to Xiao Yu, looking at him and snorting, “Xiao Yu, if you had any sense, you’d divorce Shihan now. With this deal, the Ye family’s status in Phoenix City will rise, and you were never good enough for my daughter—now, you’re even less so.”
Ye Kai thought his words would drive Xiao Yu away if he had any self-awareness. But to his disappointment, Xiao Yu simply stood at the door, not even sparing him a glance, as if he hadn’t heard a word.
Ignored—utterly ignored. Xiao Yu’s indifference infuriated Ye Kai further, strengthening his resolve to make Ye Shihan divorce him, no matter what.
