Chapter Ninety-Five: Meng Chao's Fear
With weapons in hand, the four men’s aura grew even more formidable. Four weapons hovered silently before them, while the four men continuously altered their hand seals. At once, a power beyond anything a cultivator at the Integration Realm should possess enveloped the figure standing at the center, Kong Wudao.
"Oh? So it’s a combined assault technique. How interesting. Fusing the power of four Integration Realm experts into an aura not inferior to the God Transformation Realm—this secret art is truly fascinating."
Sensing that overwhelming force, Kong Wudao’s interest was immediately piqued; he paid no heed to the threat it posed.
"Heh. Let me see just how strong the combined strength of four men can be." As soon as he spoke, his robes billowed though there was no wind, and a vast power burst forth from his body.
At that moment, Kong Wudao appeared exceptionally calm. His hands formed a strange gesture before him, and a pattern glowing with white light appeared in front of him. Then he suddenly slammed both palms toward the ground. The entire earth trembled violently, and in the next instant, beams of blinding light burst forth from below.
Boom!
The dazzling radiance instantly illuminated everything around them, and a heaven-shaking explosion rang out. The violent shockwave produced by it startled the four protectors greatly; they hastily stopped their movements, snatched up the weapons before them, and leapt aside.
But the matter did not end with their retreat. The moment they withdrew, four streaks of white light shot toward the direction they had fled. The four had barely reached the side and had not even steadied themselves when the four white beams pierced straight through their bodies.
The four stared in shock at the bloody holes bored through them by the white light, still unable to recover their senses. Everything had happened in the blink of an eye. They could scarcely believe what they were seeing.
As cultivators at the Integration Realm, they had never imagined that they would fail to withstand even a single move from an old man, and die by his hand. This caused them to see martial practitioners in a new light. So martial artists and cultivators were not so different after all. Cultivators always said that martial practitioners were nothing more than ants in their eyes, but now it seemed those people had been wrong. Martial artists were not as weak as they had claimed.
In the sky, the blinding white radiance gradually faded, and Kong Wudao’s crane-like, immortal bearing slowly came into view. The four protectors stared at him in utter shock. One of them, his voice ragged, cried out, "Moonlight... Moonlight Divine Light! You are the Moonlight Martial Saint of the Martial Alliance!"
After those words, a look of intense unwillingness crossed his face, and he slowly collapsed. The other three followed him in death one after another.
"To die in my hands is an honor for you." Kong Wudao glanced indifferently at the four dead men and said in a calm voice.
Boom!
At that moment, an explosion from the void drew Kong Wudao’s attention. In the sky, Ruthless spread his hands wide and pressed the attack on Meng Chao without pause. Under Ruthless’s fierce onslaught, Meng Chao, a dignified God Transformation cultivator, could only scramble to defend himself. This left Meng Chao feeling utterly stifled.
Bang!
Just then, one of Ruthless’s palms slammed hard into Meng Chao’s chest, sending him flying. Meng Chao tumbled through the void over a dozen times before barely regaining his balance. Once steady, he frowned deeply and looked at Ruthless with solemn eyes.
He truly had not expected this old man to be so strong. Although he had not gone all out in the exchange, he could clearly sense that the old man had also held back considerable strength.
"As the head of a household and a God Transformation cultivator, your strength should not end here. Bring out everything you have and fight me properly. From here on, I will show you no mercy."
Ruthless stood in the void with his hands clasped behind his back, looking at Meng Chao as he said this coldly.
"We have no grudge between us, past or present. Must you really drive us to extermination?" Meng Chao’s gaze swept over the four protectors who had already been dead for some time, and he questioned coldly.
"Enough talk. Make your move. I’ll at least let you die with some dignity." Ruthless remained unmoved, his expression as cold as ever. As for Kong Wudao, he leaned against a large tree, somehow producing a wine gourd from who knew where, and casually began drinking.
"Old immortal, hurry up and finish it. My old lady is practically wearing out from all this waiting." Kong Wudao drank while urging him on.
Seeing the two of them before him, anger welled up in Meng Chao’s heart. His aura surged sharply. The loose robes on his body were instantly torn apart by the violently swelling force. A long sword gleaming with white light appeared at once in his hand.
Seeing Meng Chao finally grow serious, a smile appeared on Ruthless’s face. Then, with a flick of his right hand, he gripped a golden spear tightly.
The battle erupted once more. Meng Chao flashed forward toward Ruthless, lifting his sword high. A surging wave of spiritual power burst forth, forming a colossal sword of light that slashed fiercely at Ruthless.
Seeing this, Ruthless swept his spear. A golden dragon forged from pure essence power leapt toward the enormous sword of light.
Roar!
A deafening dragon’s cry suddenly rang out as the dragon opened its maw and crashed violently toward the incoming sword of light.
Boom!
The golden dragon collided with the sword of light, unleashing a crisp blast as ferocious currents raged through the void. At that moment, Ruthless made his move as well.
He stepped out once, and his figure instantly appeared above Meng Chao. Sensing the aura overhead, Meng Chao abruptly raised his head. He would have been fine not looking, but the moment he did, he froze in place.
Above him, there were actually six phantoms of Ruthless, each one tightly gripping a golden spear. At first, Meng Chao had believed this to be merely a technique Ruthless had used, with all but the true body being illusions, but before long he completely overturned that thought.
The six figures slowly raised the spears in their hands, each phantom exuding a terrifying aura. These were no phantoms at all. They were clearly Ruthless’s clones.
Meng Chao knew that once a martial practitioner’s cultivation reached a certain realm, they could use pure essence power to manifest a body identical to their own. Though the strength of such bodies was not on the same level as the true body, the attacks of these clones were very real.
