Chapter 12: The Man Who Courted Disaster
“She’s out of danger now, but it’s best to take her to a proper hospital for a thorough examination. Our facilities here are limited.”
After leaving the operating room, Wang Xu addressed the anxious white man with words that finally let him breathe a sigh of relief.
“Thank you. I’ll arrange for her to be admitted.”
“No need to thank me, we’re all on the same side.”
Wang Xu waved his hand, paid no more attention to the man making phone calls, and briefly updated Tong Wanxin on Anna’s condition.
“Alright, go get some rest.”
Old Madam Tong patted Wang Xu’s shoulder. As a top trauma specialist, she placed Shu Mo on the bed, but the young woman showed no sign of waking. Clearly, exhaustion had overtaken her. Remembering the long hours she’d worked that day, Yin Tianchao’s heart ached for her. She’d have to work all day again tomorrow—and not just tomorrow, but likely seven days straight.
Qi Ranxi was suddenly at a loss for words; she let out a few coquettish grumbles before leaving the office. Qi Yuanzhong quickly tried to smooth things over, offering a few words, then told Qianqian to get back to work.
Murong Xue recalled that earlier, Xiao Ran and Nangong Ningshuang had talked privately for a long time; after exchanging a brief farewell with her, they had left together, hand in hand.
“What incredible knife skills!” Mother Xiang, a die-hard foodie, felt an irresistible urge to taste the beef the moment she laid eyes on it.
Ye Zhiyuan raised his brows impatiently, pulled Zhou Xuan’s hand, and continued forward. The alley was dark and filthy; he wondered how Zhou Xuan had even managed to stumble in here just now.
Yang Yi didn’t give Yang Ling a chance to explain, cutting her off directly, his cold, piercing eyes fixed on her, his tone brooking no interruption.
Ou Yihong looked annoyed, ignoring the security guard beside him, acting entirely on his own, glancing around restlessly.
“Xiaomei, since your husband is back, I’ll be going.” Gu Chen said his goodbyes to Ye Xiaomei, then drove away.
Hearing the mention of Old Zhao, Yi Xia finally realized the host’s surname was Zhao—a name she’d heard before. Of all the prominent families, if any could match the Chens in status and wealth, the Zhao family was certainly among them.
Many masters could channel their inner force into their weapons, creating a semblance of sword or blade energy—though in truth, it was only the appearance, not the essence.
Someone seemed to have taken the seat beside him. Bai Yi recalled that, when he checked in last night, this row was supposed to be empty. He glanced sideways to size up his new neighbor.
“Of course! If I can’t tell this apart, all those years of chasing rabbits with dogs would’ve been for nothing.” The other man swore with utmost confidence.
He walked to the door in confusion, opened it, and found Zhu Jianfeng standing there, breathing heavily, eyes bloodshot with intensity, staring at him with burning fervor.
Others were already confidently getting into the car with their girlfriends. After fumbling for the keyhole, Cheng Chen kindly reminded him, “It’s a proximity key—just press the button, you don’t need to insert it.”
“Minister Gao, please have a seat. What brings you here?” Li Feng frowned and sat down on a sofa.
“Heh, you see now? This is the difference between the True Ability level and the Faceless level. Even if I stood right in front of you, you wouldn’t know it was me.” Wu Shan chuckled darkly.
The man in the mask, however, was intently observing his surroundings; a few seconds later, he suddenly sprinted toward the garden.
What a shame—to die at the hands of a pack of crazed beasts, and in the Spirit Realm, no less. Who knows, once the spring is seized by the people of the Stars, whether my friends’ corpses will ever be found?
“What’s going on? He handled that so easily!” Fan Zheng and his companions exchanged incredulous glances.
“I heard from Huang He. I think it’s best if we go—many things can only be understood on-site.” Yun Hai replied.
He’d been about to contact Li Xiaoje when his phone was delivered. Well, no need to stand on ceremony now.
Chenxi felt embarrassed, but managed to stay polite, pretending not to care as she continued listening to the enchanting piano performance.
From a distance, the tall, handsome man sneaking around like this was almost comical.
